Residents in Ibanda district have condemned the district leadership for the chronic shortage of drugs in the various health facilities around the district.
The residents are however, perturbed that the faculties are never short of free condoms from government.
This week, Geoffrey Muhairwe, the chairman Health Management Committee for Ishongororo Health Center IV told off the district drug distributors to stop giving them condoms and bring medicine to help treat other diseases that are rampant in the area.
Speaking during a community dialogue at Ishongororo sub-county, Muhairwe revealed that they had not received a single package of medicine at the facility for more than three months.
“The only medicines we receive around here in plenty are condoms,” he said, wondering whether or not it was in government’s perception that the locals are so sexually active that they need more condoms than any other medical care.
Mr Muhairwe noted that they have been calling the RDC and CAO to attend their health meetings that are being held at the health center to listen to these concerns but got no response.
