High Court Judge Justice Oumo Oguli has issued an order to the Electoral Commission officer in-charge of the National Voters’ register to produce within 7 days, original documents on the voting status Habib Buwembo, the Rubaga South voter who is challenging the election of Kato Lubwama as the area MP.
This came after Justice Oguli allowed exhibits presented in court by Buwembo that included a police complaint and an application to the National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA) made on 20th/October to replace his alleged stolen National ID.
Court agreed in the interest of justice to put these documents on record, but demanded that the EC provides the original prints that show that the applicant is indeed a voter from Rubaga.
Last evening, Kato Lubwama’s lawyers asked Justice Oguli to dismiss Buwembo’s application for extension of time within which to file an election petition.
They also claimed that Buwembo is not a voter and therefore has no mandate to file an election petition.
