The executive director Foundation for Human Rights and Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (FHRI/CCEDU) , Livingstone Sewanyana has urged Ugandans to embrace electoral reforms, if they want to see new leadership.
“The mandate of the current Electoral Commission is soon expiring and we don’t want history to repeat its self,” said Mr Sewanyana.
“77% of MPs research shows, want to be included in choosing the new EC, which shows they are ready for transparency” he said.
While addressing the media at Moon Land Gardens Nsambya on Friday, Sewanyana said as FHRI/CCEDU, they are ready to carry on with sensitization of the masses on such tenets of a good democracy.
A set of electoral reforms pushed last year by civil society and the opposition were rejected by government ahead of last February’s general elections.
“Not all hope is lost: much as it did not work out last year, we have a lot of room to improve,” said Sewanyana.
