Security was pumped up at High Court Criminal Division in Kampala as a senior medical officer from Uganda Police testified about the two postmortem reports on the death of Sheikh Hassan Ibrahim Kirya and Sheikh Mustafa Bahiga who were murdered last year.
Tabliq’s leader Sheikh Yunus Kamoga and 13 others are facing murder, attempted murder and terrorism charges in this case.

Appearing before judges Ezekiel Muhanguzi, Percy Tuhaise and Elizabeth Nahamya, this unnamed medical expert told court that he carried out the medical examination on the two bodies on the request of Kireka and Bwebajja Police.

According to the state witness, the body of Sheikh Mustapha Bahiga was brought in a white trouser stained in blood.
The body he said had a circular entry wound, 0.4 cm wide on the chest with blackening tissues, which was confirmed as a bullet wound. He says the brain was examined and found to be normal.

The body of Sheikh Kirya on the other hand was also examined at City Mortuary by Dr Sam Kalungi a senior pathologist.
“This also was covered in blood stained green sheets with words Kibuli Hospital Mbogo Ward. The body had a round gunshot wound of 0.5cm. Abdominal organs were pale and collection of blood in the
muscles of the right thigh,” he explained.
In cross examination however, the witness was challenged by defense counsel Fred Muwema, who tabled evidence from the national medical council’s website showing that he is not a registered medical practitioner; and accusation that the witness shrugged off.
The three justices asked this witness to bring in court tomorrow, documents proving that he is a registered practitioner which he promised to.
