Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), the country’s communication regulatory body has warned Samsung dealers in the country against importing the company’s latest controversial smartphone, Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
The development was revealed on Friday through a statement on the UCC’s social media platforms.
“The Commission has issued a directive to the Samsung country dealer to desist from importing the gadget in question [Samsung Galaxy Note 7],” the statement reads in part.
The statement further clarifies that importation of the smartphone would be in breach of Regulation 7 of the communications which requires an importer to obtain type approval for any terminal or network equipment.
“Since UCC, hasn’t type approved the Galaxy Note 7, it’s sell is illegal; contrary 2 Regulation 7 of equipment type approval,” the statement further reads
The warning comes just a few days after the importation and distribution of the same smartphone were banned in neighboring Rwanda.
The smartphones, a few days after the official announcement and release reportedly started exploding while they are charging.
The explosions were reported to have spoilt cars and set a house on fire, something that has been perceived as risky to people’s lives.
