The UNEB Executive Secretary, Dan N. Odongo has revealed that they have injected over Shs2 billion to ensure smooth running of this year’s PLE, UCE and UACE examinations.
Describing it as ‘Kisanja Hakuna Mchezo, President Museveni’s slogan for ‘term of serious work’, the UNEB Executive Secretary told journalists at a news conference that this time round they can’t afford letting any malpractice go unchecked.
“It will not be business as usual and in this declared Kisanja Hakuna Mchezo, the board will take firm action against schools that will continue involving themselves in exam malpractice,” Mr.Odongo warned.
“We have deployed over 1600 scouts and security personnel plus over Shs2 billion to be used for hiring trucks, invigilators, scouts and other necessary work to enable smooth running of this year’s examinations.”
Schools Blacklisted
The UNEB boss also revealed that there are a number of schools whose results were withheld and also blacklisted for involving in exam malpractice in the previous year, warning that the board will be following them with a keen eye.

Naming the 14 schools under the watchful eye, Mr.Odongo explained these have one chance or else they risk losing their centre numbers for a number of years in case they are caught engaging in exam malpractice.
The UNEB boss named Loreto SS from Mukono, Mivule SS Bukakata (Masaka) and Booma International School in Mbarara whose centres were withdrawn. These will have to wait for 2 years to have them reinstated.
“Parents, teachers and candidates are further warned against bribing field officers or paying for fake question papers .Those who will not heed to this warning risk getting firm action against them.”
On the science practical specimen that is always leaked to students by the teachers, the UNEB boss said they had appealed to teachers to desist from this practice on top of other measures he could not reveal.
“I don’t want to disclose what we have done but I assure you, we are capable of detecting whoever engages in exam malpractice.”
Mr. Odongo says UNEBE has registered over 300,000 candidates to sit for this year’s UCE examinations representing a 3% increase from last year.
The Uganda Certificate of Education examinations begin on Monday 17, October up to 23 November.
