Several Members of the 10th Parliament were yesterday ‘disappointed’ learning that their Bank accounts had not been credited with money meant for their cars as reported in Daily Monitor on Wednesday.
The report said up to Sh100million has been had been deposited to every member’s account as part of payment for the vehicles.
Kaliro District woman legislator, Margaret Mbeiza told Chimpreports on Wednesday that on learning about the development in the media, she run straight to Housing Finance Bank but found nothing on her account.
“We have not received any money; as I talk now I am from the bank and I have talked to the chief accountant who told me that no money has been released yet and that’s why you are seeing MPs languishing in Kampala”
“We cannot access our constituents because we don’t have transport; we would have used this period of recess to talk to our people to find out their problems and whether they appreciate government initiatives in building their constituencies,”
Rubaga North Member of Parliament, Moses Kasibante also revealed that the money hasn’t been deposited to his account but noted that Parliament would be making a mistake to release the money since there is still a court case going on against the release of funds.
“I haven’t received money on my account but I still think it was not in good faith because some Ugandan was in Court challenging its constitutionality; the parliament commission should wait until the case is determined,” Kasibante noted.
Other law makers contacted on the issue include; Nansana Municipality MP, Wakayima Nsereko , Busiro East MP Merdad Ssegoona and Kyadondo East MP Apollo Kantinti who all confirmed that they hadn’t received the money by Wednesday.
