Uganda Premier League giants Express football club have sacked head coach Alex Gitta.
According to reliable sources, the politician-cum coach was sacked on Tuesday evening after a long meeting held by club chairperson, Hon. Nakiwala Kiyingi.
“The meeting started around 5:30pm and went on for about three hours and the chairperson has decided to relieve Gitta of his duties,” said a source who preferred anonymity.
Since the start of the season, there have been reports showing Gitta has not been in good terms with Wasswa Bossa who was his assistant last season.
The two have failed to agree in training, team selections and many other issues, a thing that has prompted Hon. Nakiwala to take the decision.
“Bossa was not comfortable working with Gitta and the two have been disagreeing on so many things hence dividing the team. Bossa has influence on most of the players, therefore some of them have not been respecting Gitta,” the source claimed.
One of the decisions taken from the closed door meeting is that Wasswa Bossa replaces Alex Gitta as head coach.
At the start of the season, Bossa who was the assistant coach last season was put aside for lack of the minimum required qualifications (CAF B license) to coach a team in the Uganda Premier League and the team was handed to Gitta and Douglas Bamweyana was brought in as the new assistant coach.
However, after negotiations between the red eagles and the local football governing body (FUFA), Bossa who holds a CAF C licence was reportedly given a temporary coaching licence for one season that allows him to manage a top flight team.
In another development, Hassan Mubiru has been appointed the assistant coach to replace Bamweyana while James Magala replaces Abu Kigenyi as the goalkeeper coach.
Gitta joined Express last season helping the team finish third in the league. He leaves Wankulukuku with the team in sixth position on 12 points this season.
The 33 year old coach is the third coach to be sacked this season, following Charles Ayieko at Soana and Deo Sserwadda at SC Villa.
